Who can participate?
We are recruiting participants for a study on retraining running form. You must be female between the ages of 18 – 60, have been running for 3 months prior to study commencement and have participated in 2 or fewer half marathons previously. You must also have been free from any ankle, knee, hip, or back injuries in the previous three months and have no history of ankle, knee, or hip joint surgery. This study is assessing a “high risk” population. Therefore, participants meeting the above criteria will also be screened in the lab to assess whether their running form places them in this category.
What is required?
You will be required to complete a 15-week half marathon training program as part of this study. You will be scheduled to visit the Biomechanics Lab at Fortius Sport & Health in Burnaby eight times (during weeks 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14) for a 30-minute running form training session in which you will receive real-time feedback about your running form on our instrumented treadmill. At the beginning and end of the 15-week program, you will undergo a biomechanical assessment (approximately 1 hour each) at Fortius, where we will measure your running mechanics. Another testing session will take place four weeks after the completion of the training program.
Recruitment is currently underway, with screening beginning in August 2017.
